Top 5 Places I want to see in Europe

With the Covid-19 pandemic, many of my travel plans were put on hold. However with the world slowly opening up, here are the top 5 place you should visit in the coming years.

Number Five: Brussels, Belgium

Brussels has been on my travel bucket list for a long time, between its fabulous architecture and culture it‘s for sure a must see. It is the perfect size for a short weekend getaway, and its proximity to other major destinations such as; Amsterdam, Paris and London makes it the perfect stop in a larger European trip.

If you’re planning a trip here, are some of the best things to do and see:

1) Explore the incredible architecture at the Grand Place or the Royal Palace of Brussel.

2) Soak up the culture in a few museums such as; The Brussels City Museum or the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Science.

3) Of course stuff yourself with as many Belgian waffles as humanly possible.

For more ideas check out this post by Hand Luggage Only .They have many more suggestions not only for trips to Brussels, but for trips across the world.

Number Four: Greece (Island Hopping)

Greece was on my itinerary for this year (2021) however with Covid‘s third waves throughout canada I wasn’t able to go. Being the theatre kid I am, I want nothing more than to experience Mamma Mia in real life. Hence Greece is on this list.

Between its ancient history (history being my other major, along side theatre), beaches, nature, culture and food Greece is my heaven.

Greece is the ideal destination for everyone, families, couples, and friend trips.

I suggest for:

Families: The Island of Crete, which offers beaches, waterparks, hikes and quaint towns for

the whole family to explore.

Couples: Santorini and Paros, both have cute little towns to explore as well as many hikes

and beaches. Santorini is known for its incredible sunsets, creating the perfect romantic

atmosphere. Paros is similar to Mykonos but without the nightlife allowing for a peaceful

romantic getaway.

Friends: Ios and Mykonos, both islands have your traditional quaint Greek towns, but they

also provide vibrant nightlife. Perfect for a friends party getaway.

Number Three: Slovenia

Slovenia is a lesser known nature gem of the north Balkan area. It has beautiful mountains, massive lakes an an incredible culture to match. It is a small country, but somewhere I can’t wait to visit.

Like much of the balkan area, Slovenia has known its fair share of violence throughout history. Dont let this scare you however, the country is now safe and they have prevailed over their violent past. Take Ljubljan, the countries capital, it is teeming with astonishing murals, there is art all over the city. It also provides an incredible nightlife with plenty of bars to explore. Outside of the capital you can see the magical Lake Bled, and castles, what more could you want.

To top it all off the country is rather cheap to travel through, with hostels costing as low as $25 CAD a night you can easily travel to country on a budget.

You need to add Slovenia to you travel bucket list right now!

Number Two: The Azores, Portugal

I discovered the Azores a few years ago while planing a trip to Portugal, and immediately fell in love. I haven’t yet had to chance to go but I will.

While they are certainly not the cheapest destination on this list they are worth looking into, placed in the Atlantic Ocean between Portugal and America, they are a series of islands that boast incredible landscapes. Similar to those of Hawaii.

The islands are a popular destination for those who seek outdoor activities, there are plenty of hikes up dormant volcanos, sailing along the coast and natural springs to relax in after all your adventures. As you watch the beautiful sunset.

Number One: The Balkans

I know, I know, its an entire region…. (And I’ve already mention two Balkan countries) But you have to visit all of it. It probably deserves a post all to its self.

The Balkans are the south east region of Europe just above, and including Greece. They have everything, beaches, museums, history, quaint towns, nightlife, and compare to the rest of Europe they are much cheaper to travel in.

They make the perfect destination for an traveler on a budget.

I would say you cannot miss:

  • The island hopping in Croatia

  • The mountains in Albania

  • The architecture in Bulgaria

  • The castles in Romania

  • The beaches in Montenegro

The Balkans truly have it all!

There we have it the top 5 place everyone needs to visit in Europe, let me know which is your favourite.
